The second of our special charities is TWLOHA – a cause devoted to mental health. From their own website:

Part of TWLOHA’s mission is to make sure people are informed about mental health issues. Our hope is that sharing knowledge and truth about mental health will combat the stigma surrounding it. Two-thirds of people with depression do not seek treatment. We want to see that number change. We believe that help is real and possible for everyone, and we hope education about mental health will open doors for those who are struggling to reach out and receive the help they deserve.

Some stark statistics from twloha.com:

  • 9.7% of Americans suffer from a mood disorder such as depression
  • 14 – 24% of youths or young adults have self-injured at least once
  • Globally, there is one suicide every 40 seconds
  • 20 million women and 10 million men in the U.S. suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their lives.

TWLOHA reach out to help those who deal with depression, addiction, self-harm, suicide, anxiety, eating disorders… I have seen these at close quarters and they are often overlooked, sometimes for fear of stigma. They’re important to me, and at the suggestion of a friend, we are honoured to include TWLOHA as a charity for this project.

Since we began the project, we have funded three students from Boston to get attend a three-day training conference hosted by TWLOHA, so that they can open a chapter at their University and get the urgent care needed to their peers. Thank you so much for providing that for them.

Thank you.
